I have just listened to both their speeches and am pretty convinced Sarkozy will win as his has put his heart and soul into it whereas Ms Royal speaks her speech like a parrot.
He is full of energy, he wants to level up France, responds clearly to issues by concrete solutions, hasn't an angel look at problems and take them at the root: security-immigration; unemployment-work policy. He's a self made man and strong enough which is important on security issues. Health care and education can work well only when the security is restored. 35 hours/week destroys French economy - you should have a possibility to work more and to earn more. Emigration in my opinion is good when it is selected and regulated. Finally, his foreign policy is closer to Great-Britain, we should understand that we are in the same boat, aren't we?!
What people forget about Sarkozy is that he has proposed some very progressive policies towards Muslims (e.g. public money for faith-based schools). He is a not so much an ideologue but pragmatist who understands where what is needed to get France moving again. Compare his policies to Ms Royal 's unreconstructed socialism and the choice is not hard to make.

I am British by naturalisation and not registered in France so I can’t vote, but what concerns me is all the news reports about Africans or other foreigners in Calais and Sandgatte who are either let loose to the charities, or arrested then freed by the French police!
They aren’t just illegal immigrants to the UK; they are illegally in France too! Why don’t the French police arrest them and deport them?
The integration of the Muslim immigrant is impossible. The Muslims will integrate French people and this is not just a French problem. This is the biggest problem of Europe. Sarkozy is the only one with a real capability to rule this country. Segolene is just a joke, he is to be preferred, as he seems more inclined to wield authority with a firmer hand. France will be the paradigm for all Europe, in this regard. France will lose its face soon if they can’t stop the immigration. He is an honest man. Socialist people should stop calling him a Fascist too: when you have more than 30 % of a vote, it s an insult to democracy.
The solution to unemployment is to open the economy and to stop hiding behind protectionism and economic patriotism. The candidates have a real chance of showing clear differentiation by explaining their choice. Chirac adopted the misguided policy of trying to placate and appease the Muslim youth, even as they engaged in orgies of violence, by pandering on many Middle Eastern foreign policy questions.. France needs to rid itself of socialism, just like everyone else and notably the UK thanks to Thatcher. Ironically, Ms Royal admires Blair who in turn admired Thatcher ! A strict law and order policy must be administered and immigration halted. Royal is too soft, Sarkozy is the best for this but will he have the courage? The UK and France are competitors for most of history and enjoy a love/hae relationship. Yet it doe as not benefit the UK or Europe to have a weak and increasingly uncompetitive France (just think of the UK some 28 years ago!). I believe Sarkozy represents the best of the bunch. I feel he will shake the rug after years of inertia from Mr Chirac. Ms Royal will simply continue with unrealistic socialist policies which are financially ruinable. We all need and hope for a robust candidate to led France. He is the only candidate who has the guts, means and skills to put France back in track. Fingers crossed.
